George Russell made a good start in increasingly heavy rain, taking the lead from Lando Norris. Max Verstappen started perfectly and is already in the top 10.

Starting from pole position for the fifth time in the last seven Grand Prix, Lando Norris had to achieve a perfect takeoff to hurtle down the Senna Esses, the first turns of the Interlagos track, in the lead. Behind, George Russell, who accompanied his compatriot on the front row, deprived him of it, by making a perfect start.

The Mercedes driver took the lead ahead of Norris and the two qualifying surprises: Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls), Esteban Ocon (Alpine). Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) is 5th, ahead of Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls).

Further in the pack, Max Verstappen, 17th on the grid after failed qualifying combined with a penalty of five places on the grid, gained a few positions after a good start (10th). Pierre Gasly (Alpine) also gained four places and finds himself 9th, ahead of Verstappen.
