In an interview published this Sunday in La Tribune, filmmaker and producer Luc Besson says he “agrees to pay more taxes” and vilifies the rich who oppose the effort requested by the new government in reducing taxes. its deficit.
While the government announced that it was asking for a “temporary and exceptional contribution” to the wealthiest households, filmmaker and film producer Luc Besson shared with La Tribune this Sunday, November 3, that he was in favor of such a measure. This new tax on the highest incomes, “which will concern 65,000 tax households or 0.3% of taxpayers who currently pay income tax”, represents the cornerstone of the government's project to reduce the public deficit.
The “redistribution” of wealth is an “obligation”
“I am part of this category and I am entirely in favor of this measure. I even find it indecent to oppose it,” said Luc Besson, referring to “a wealth gap [qui] has continued to increase since the beginning of the 2000s. According to the Observatory of Inequalities, although the rich are fewer in number in France, their income has increased between 2011 and 2021.
“In France, 9 million people live below the poverty line. Nearly 4 million of our compatriots are without decent housing. Nearly 20% of students do not have enough to eat and are forced to skip on average more than three meal per week”, explains Luc Besson in La Tribune.
Luc Besson therefore shares the need to reduce this gap, because “almost all the ills of our society come from this imbalance”, in particular “the breeding ground of violence, separatism, hatred, racism…”. On the other hand, he highlights the responsibility of the State in this mission, describing the theory of “trickle down” as an “illusion” and “redistribution” as an “obligation”.
“So yes, I agree to pay more taxes, even a little more if necessary,” he insists while vilifying the rich: “Shame on (them), heirs most often, who cling to their nest egg like a mussel to a rock.
