Following the postponement of the qualifying session for the São Paulo Grand Prix to Sunday, the FIA is adjusting the race times.
Following the rain which fell on the Interlagos circuit, the FIA had to postpone the qualifying session until this Sunday morning in Brazil. The program is therefore slightly modified.
Change of program in São Paulo
The FIA therefore published a press release to announce the new schedules for Sunday:
Following the conditions in São Paulo today, it was decided not to continue with qualifying due to low visibility, standing water on the track and reduced light. Safety is always the priority in such circumstances and although maximum time was given to allow for improvement, this was unfortunately not possible. We have immense appreciation for all the fans who stayed at the track hoping to see cars on track today.
Therefore, the decision was made, after consultation with the stewards, to schedule qualifying for 07:30 local time on Sunday morning ahead of the Grand Prix at 12:30 local time. This will ensure we maximize the chances of providing fans with a day of on-track action, and both the FIA and Formula 1 believe this timetable change is necessary and the best thing to do for all our passionate fans.
We thank everyone for their patience today, including fans, drivers, teams, marshals, track personnel and media, and look forward to delivering an exciting event on Sunday.
Thus, qualifying will take place from 11:30 a.m. French time, and the São Paulo Grand Prix is therefore brought forward to 4:30 p.m. French time.
