This last Sunday in October, at the Payrignac village hall, the Friends of the Birds of Périgord Noir (AOPN) club was a huge success.
Exotic bird breeders and the AOPN contribute to the preservation of species that are in danger of extinction and some have even already disappeared in the natural environment. The association was created in 1998 in Sarlat, then expanded to the Lot in 2007. It now has 31 members.
The AOPN is currently chaired by Bernard Laffon and its vice-president is Patrice Pogoraro. In the team, the treasurer is Fernand Lameira, Anne-Marie Jouffreau, the indispensable secretary, assisted by Christian Genot, assistant secretary.
This Sunday, thirty breeders presented more than a hundred breeds of birds. The star race was the cockatiel, motley with dazzling colors; it comes in albino, lutino, pearl…
Color lovers were delighted: there was no shortage of them. Moreover, a good number of birds attest to this and bear their name well: the turquoisine, the parakeet with green cheeks or yellow mask, the mosaic or red canary, as for the plum head it comes in opaline, blue or still green. Some rarities were on display, such as bluebirds, wonderful singers from Tanzania. The superb spreo, very proud indeed, was also on display. We can also cite birds with enchanting names, such as Australian diamond, cardinal of Virginia, pope of Nouméa, collar of Asia, prince of Wales…
Let's not hide the fact that the children were fascinated.
On Sunday January 26, 2025, the AOPN general assembly will be held at the head office in Payrignac at 2:30 p.m.
On March 16, the association will exhibit at Cénac in Dordogne.
