After being hit by a car this Wednesday, June 5, the little girl who was hospitalized at the Tours University Hospital was declared brain dead by the medical profession. “The La Rochelle public prosecutor’s office expresses its deep condolences to the victim’s family and sympathizes with their pain,” wrote the La Rochelle public prosecutor, Arnaud Laraize, in a press release.

The magistrate added that a 10-year-old child was still in absolute emergency in serious condition in Poitiers. Another 9-year-old child, who was initially hospitalized in La Rochelle as a relative emergency, was transferred to Poitiers for observation. “An 11-year-old child hospitalized in La Rochelle, in absolute emergency, is experiencing positive developments in her state of health. Finally, a fifth and final 9-year-old child in relative emergency was operated on this morning in La Rochelle, but is in a stable state”, specifies the La Rochelle public prosecutor’s office.

The driver interned in psychiatry

The only good news is that two of the injured children were released from the hospital on the evening of Wednesday, June 5. First opened for “unintentional injuries by vehicle drivers”, the investigation was extended to the qualification of “involuntary homicide by the driver of a land motor vehicle”, also declared Arnaud Laraize, in his press release.

The driver, who was driving in the wrong direction on Avenue de Coligny in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), was hospitalized in psychiatry, BFMTV learned this Thursday, June 6. “The accused is still interned in a specialized unit and has not been able to be heard at this time,” confirmed the public prosecutor.
