Historic for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, the date of June 6, 2024 is also historic within the sphere of Formula 1. Indeed, as announced the evening before, it is this Thursday after- noon that the new technical regulations which will come into force within the discipline at the start of the 2026 season were unveiled.

As agreed, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) lifted the veil on this new chapter of F1 through a reveal held live on video, on its YouTube channel, from 3:30 p.m. French time, on the sidelines of the Canadian Grand Prix which is held in Montreal from June 7 to 9.

Weight reduced by 30 kg, greater deployment of electrical power

The guideline followed by this unique single-seater concerns a reduction in dimensions and weight, so as to make it more agile than the current one. Thanks to it, Formula 1 intends to relaunch the spectacle on the track, by going against the trend seen for several years, the 2024 single-seater weighing no less than 798 kg on the scale (with the driver).

  • The concept of “agile car” at the heart of the 2026 technical regulations aims to give it better ability on the track and make the races closer.
  • 2026 single-seaters will be 30 kg lighter than current-generation F1 cars, improving efficiency and handling
  • Redesigned powertrain leverages the world’s most efficient engines with nearly 300% more battery power and even a split between internal combustion and electric power
  • Active aerodynamics to meet the energy management requirements of new power units
  • Increased overtaking possibilities thanks to the new manual overtaking mode allowing greater deployment of electric power for the car following
  • Record number of six powertrain manufacturers with Ferrari, Mercedes, Alpine, Honda, Audi and Red Bull Ford Powertrains committed to F1 from 2026
  • The 2026 single-seaters will run on 100% sustainable fuel
  • Improved safety thanks to stronger structures and even more rigorous testing
