Anti-terrorism investigators in Greece warned on Saturday, November 2, against a “new generation of terrorists” after arresting a man in connection with an explosion which caused one victim and seriously injured a woman in Athens, according to AFP information relayed by Europe 1. The events date back to Thursday October 31. The accidental detonation of a homemade bomb could have been the cause of the incident.
Greek police also opened an investigation into alleged membership of a terrorist organization against a 30-year-old woman still on the run, as well as the woman who was injured. The latter was hospitalized under police surveillance. The man who was arrested was remanded in custody. He surrendered to the police on Friday November 1st. He denies any involvement in the explosion but is believed to be linked to one of the two women wanted in connection with the incident.
Killed man already arrested in Germany
The person found dead was a 36-year-old man from the city of Piraeus. According to AFP, he had already been arrested in Germany and his fingerprints appear in the international database of Europol, the European Union police agency. For around ten years, dozens of arsons and bombings have taken place in Greece and hit diplomatic, financial and political targets.
