Saturday November 2, 2024, the gable of a house collapsed in Saint-Gatien-des-Bois (Calvados), between Deauville and Honfleur. The events occurred at the place called La Correspondance, on the edge of the RD 519.
“We heard a big noise”
“We heard a big noise and the ground vibrated,” said one of the two residents. No injuries were reported. Around fifteen firefighters from Caen, Honfleur and Pont-l'Evêque are on site. Among them, the rescue-clearance team, which will carry out a diagnosis in order to assess the risk of the house collapsing.
Demolition work next door
This incident is probably linked to demolition work carried out in the neighboring house. The town hall of Saint-Gatien-des-Bois had issued a security order, after noting “imminent danger” during an on-site visit on October 22, 2024.
