The DRC army announced, Thursday evening, October 31, the release of 118 people detained by the ADF rebels, an armed group of Ugandan origin which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, in the east of the DRC. This would be the largest number of releases since the start of joint operations carried out by the Congolese and Ugandan armies in 2021.

Among the 118 people released in Ituri, there are men, children and even pregnant women. For the moment, these ex-hostages are still under the protection of the Congolese army in Ituri, on the Luna-Komanda road axis. A strategic area on the border between North Kivu and Ituri, where military pressure remains constant.

The identification of these people is underway and the army prefers to proceed with caution. Because it is possible, according to military sources, that fighters could infiltrate among the hostages. The idea of ​​a trap set by this armed group remains on the table.

Bastions included in the “triangle of death”

ADF fighters moved west of the national road No. 4, in the Bapere sector, northwest of Lubero territory, others headed north, to the border between the North -Kivu and Ituri.
