To say that Nîmes native Ludivine Furnon is one of the best-known faces of French gymnastics is an understatement. It is she who will give her name to the future Sports Hall, which will open its doors on November 5 at Mas de Vignoles in Nîmes. It was the mayor of Nîmes, Jean-Paul Fournier who decided it.
She marked the history of French gymnastics and was the first gymnast in the country to have won, in 1995 in Sabae in Japan, a medal at the world championships thanks to a third place in the “floor” discipline. Ludivine Furnon was only 15 years old. Five years later, in 2000, she became European champion in Paris, still on this apparatus.
“It was the Mayor who called me, entrust to Living in Nîmes the 44-year-old gymnast who started at the GIG30 club in Costières in 1992 I am very honored. It touches me all the more since I have returned to my hometown and my two children, who do gymnastics and trampoline, will be able to train in this new equipment. It’s a nice passing of the baton.”
The one who stopped her sporting career a few years after her Parisian coronation today has a beautiful artistic trajectory. She was notably part of the Cirque du Soleil troupe. In 2010, Ludivine Furnon also participated in the show France has incredible talenton M6, in duo with Nicolas Besnard under the name Duo Ouvert. She is also on stage at Cirque Phénix during the winter of 2010-2011. The gymnast who was able to participate in the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics and who also has 14 French championship titles should be present for the inauguration of the new Nîmes sports complex.
