It's All Saints' Day, and on this holiday you may go to the cemetery to honor the memory of your deceased loved ones, it's tradition. But, for several years, burials have become more and more expensive, 4,730 euros on average and even up to 5,317 euros in Ile-de-France: “This is indeed a very significant financial burden for families.“, estimates Cendrine Chapel, the general director of funeral services for the City of Paris. “And since the end of the monopoly, the price of funerals has increased twice as fast as inflation.“, she recalls.
The Paris town hall offers a public funeral service, therefore less expensive, at “4,000 for a burial and 3,250 euros for a cremation, with mid-range services“, explains Cendrine Chapel. “We have also, for 25 years, had social and solidarity convoys intended for people with low resources, and that is a unique policy in France.“, she says. “Concretely, this means that a person who submits an income tax return of less than 992 euros will only pay 500 euros for their benefit.“.
