The night was also full of emotion for this Guingampais, resident of an immediate neighboring building. “It was my wife who woke me up around 1:30 a.m., alerted by noises. We were in complete darkness, we saw an army of firefighters outside. We realized that there was smoke in the lower floor of the apartment and a large opening at the rear, on the courtyard side, but no flame. We got dressed quickly and went out to get to safety and check that there was no one in the other apartments,” he says.
“We were a little worried, but we quickly understood that the disaster was limited to the building next door. I went back to collect our three cats and we spent part of the night outside, following the progress of the firefighter intervention.” The couple was able to return to their home around 4:30 a.m., the electricity was restored around 10:30 a.m. “I believe that at the time, we did not realize the importance of the disaster because we did not see any flame. I think our cats were the most scared.”
