A fire broke out this Friday morning, around 10 a.m., at the Café de la Réunion in Villebois-Lavalette. The flames, which started in the cellar of the establishment, caused no injuries.
A rapid emergency response
According to La Charente Libre, as soon as the alert was given, around thirty firefighters from Villebois, La Couronne, Chalais, Châteauneuf and Angoulême mobilized to control the fire. Thanks to their rapid intervention, they managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other levels of the café as well as adjacent buildings.
An establishment already closed
It should be noted that the Café de la Réunion had already been closed since last March, following an administrative closure for hygiene problems. The former managers, Cédrick Cherfallot and his seventy-year-old mother Annick, witnessed the firefighters' intervention from the square. Annick Cherfallot, resident on site, may have to find new accommodation following this incident.
