Which mountain film festival to choose this fall?

Every fall, mountain and adventure film festivals follow one another, sometimes in the same region. So much so that it is sometimes difficult to see clearly: how to choose? What are the characteristics of each of them? Non-exhaustive list to help you sort.

From November 5 to 9, 2024, at the Palais des sports in (Isère)

Concretely, what is it?

With 5 screening evenings and 23 films on display, the festival offers a wide diversity of activities: climbing, freeriding, mountaineering, ski touring, mountain biking, paragliding, hiking… Every year we enjoy discovering a few films from animation and a few amateur films within the selection, which bring a breath of fresh air amid more ambitious productions. The on-set meetings also allow you to learn more about behind the scenes and put anonymous amateurs and the greatest athletes on an equal footing.

We go there for:

  • the diversity of practices represented
  • the atmosphere (and the tartiflette)
  • the number of films on the screen

Prix : 8€ (full price) per evening

Created in 2019, the Women in the Mountains Festival is the first festival to dedicate its programming to women…in the mountains. Directors, athletes, amateurs and professionals are highlighted in order to inspire the public and show that women are indeed present at altitude, in front of and behind the camera. It is also the only festival that is duplicated online: it is possible to buy a digital pass to enjoy the selection, quietly from your sofa, until January 6.

We go there for:

  • support the visibility of women in mountain films
  • the intimate side of the screenings
  • accessibility for the deaf and hard of hearing

FIFAV is undoubtedly the most eclectic festival of this selection, both in terms of the diversity of its formats and that of its subjects. True to its name, it offers a program combining films, books, photo exhibitions and immersive workshops. The festival understands that adventure is not limited to snow-capped peaks or vast oceans: it is also present in distant lands, little-known cultures, ecological challenges, and human stories.

We go there for:

  • the eclecticism of the productions
  • l’ambiance festive
  • the number of appointments, around 150 over the 7 days
