North Korean soldiers sent to Russia: what is Kim Jong-un playing at?

The United States has confirmed that North Korea is sending more than 10,000 troops for training in eastern Russia. This Tuesday, October 29, the Americans were even more precise by announcing that they had detected a “small number” of North Korean soldiers in the Russian region of Kursk, bordering Ukraine. An additional 2,000 men are said to be about to arrive in this area. According to South Korean intelligence services, Pyongyang will even send generals to the front line. Although North Korea has not confirmed these presences, the international community is concerned about Kim Jong-un’s intentions. The country has already supplied several million shells to Russia and signed a treaty on “comprehensive strategic partnership” with Vladimir Putin last June. This pact aims in particular to avoid UN sanctions, after North Korea’s ballistic and nuclear tests, thanks to the Russian veto.
