Brazilian Grand Prix: A weekend under the threat of rain?

Between the Brazilian Grand Prix and the rain, it's a love story. Relocated to Interlagos since 1990, the Auriverde meeting has often been the scene of races marked by capricious weather conditions.

Among the most recent examples, we think of 2008 and Lewis Hamilton's first title, 2012 and the battle for the championship between Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, 2016 and the dance in the rain of Max Verstappen including the overtaking of Nico Rosberg at the exit of Senna's S is still on everyone's minds… More recently, the latest edition was marked by a violent storm which broke out on Friday afternoon after having threatened the qualifications for a long time.

This year, everything suggests that Mother Nature could once again do its thing, this time practically throughout the weekend. While Friday should be free of rain, Saturday and Sunday could see showers.

In fact, according to the latest readings from Climatempo Brasil, the chances of rain rise to 80% on Saturday and Sunday. It is in particular Saturday, dedicated to the Sprint Race and Grand Prix qualifying, which is most threatened. According to the local weather specialist, sunshine is expected at the start of the day with the gradual appearance of clouds leading to rain during the afternoon.

In this scenario, the Sprint Race (scheduled for 11:00 a.m. local time, 3:00 p.m. in ) could be contested calmly unlike the qualifications (3:00 p.m. local time, 7:00 p.m. in France).

As for Sunday, a few showers are expected in the afternoon, within the window for which this Brazilian Grand Prix is scheduled. A heavy cloudy period is anticipated by specialists. Enough to offer us an even livelier race?
