In a few months, several vehicles burned in Fleury-d'Aude. The affected owners are all traders or elected officials. The reorganization of one of the town's markets could be the cause of these arson attacks.

Last Sunday, woken up in the middle of his sleep by his neighbor who came to alert him, the deputy mayor of Fleury-d'Aude, in charge of commerce, discovered vehicles on fire. “When we see flames like that, we already fear for ourselves and then we were afraid that the house would catch fire. It was very impressive.” confie Norbert Schmidt.
In recent months, Fleury-d'Aude has been the scene of repeated fires. Sunday's is just the latest episode in a long series of fires, all voluntary.
“In July we had a trader whose two vans were burned and the fire spread to the home. If we hadn't had a rapid intervention by the firefighters, if it hadn't been for the neighbors and themselves, they would have risked their lives.” assures André-Luc Montagnier, mayor (SE) of Fleury-d’Aude.
In total, six vehicles went up in smoke. Strangely, all of them belonged to traders or elected officials with a link to the Saint-Pierre-la-Mer market, a market that has become a scene of tension.
“There has been a recovery for 3 years, particularly on the rules of hygiene and cleanliness and therefore we are very demanding with all traders. And we cannot accept, conversely, that certain traders do not respect the rules“, continues the mayor.
Jean-Pierre is one of the victims of the arsonist(s). It describes a strange atmosphere. Now along the stalls, psychosis sets in.
“It's terrible! I arrive in the morning and I don't move from my truck. Before, we had tradesmen's meals, we had a drink… now, it's over! There is suspicion between all people. Who could have done this?” confides the trader.
Several complaints have been filed, the town hall of Saint-Pierre-la-Mer is considering filing a civil suit. The investigation is entrusted to the Narbonne research brigade.
