In Ukraine, if the American elections and the professions of faith of the candidates are observed, on the government side, there is no official announcement on a preference for the Democratic candidate or the Republican candidate. And on the population's side, it is above all the war that is on the minds of the population.
From our correspondent in kyiv,
Since the start of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine by the RussiaTHE UNITED STATES supported the Ukrainian war and defense effort to the tune of more than $64 billion. Washington is kyiv's most important military partner, but for Mykhailo Podolyak, the advisor to Volodymyr Zelenskythis Ukrainian presidency sees these elections approaching without any expressed concern. “ The United States is a key partner of Ukraine. It is a country that guarantees the functioning of international law. This is why we are monitoring the situation very carefully,” he says.
But the adviser to the Ukrainian president asserts no preference: « L’Ukraine today, from what I understand, has the full institutional support of both the Democratic and Republican parties, he assures. And I understand that this support will continue, again, regardless of who occupies the White House for the next term. »

“I want the candidate who will contribute to Ukraine’s victory to win!” »
On the population side, we follow what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic, although with more interest in the local consequences of this election than the results strictly speaking.
« I think that if somehow this so strongly affected our fate, that of the entire Ukrainian people, we would have followed these elections more closely, says a resident of kyiv. But we are more concerned about ourselves at the moment and more about the war in the country than about the elections somewhere, over there… »
Another passerby gives her opinion:“I want the candidate who will contribute to Ukraine’s victory to win!” » The woman admits to having a preferred candidate, but refuses to reveal his name.
If this other resident of kyiv leans towards the democrats, he is mainly thinking of the consequences on the war : “If you're wondering who I think is going to win, I don't know. I think I'm more for the Democrats, for Ms. Kamala Harris. But regardless, Ukraine will work with whoever the American people choose as president. »
In Ukraine, the stakes of these elections escape no one, but the population is rather focused on the war that they endure on a daily basis. During the two and a half years of war, delegations from both parties, Republicans and Democrats, came to ensure American support for kyiv. For now, this is enough insurance for Ukrainians who live from day to day.
