Season 4 of the African League ended this Saturday in Kigali. The final won by Petro de Luanda puts an end to the games of this edition which started in March and took place in 4 cities. BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall spoke about the game and the organization.

It was a happy league president who wanted to thank the public at the BK Arena. Approved by the latter, he then presented the trophy to the 2024 Champion. Amadou Gallo Fall congratulated the consistency of the Angolan team in the competition. “Petro Luanda has been in the League since the beginning. It is a team that has taken part in all editions with US Monastir. I believe it is the consecration of regularity. Petro finished 3rd in 2021, 2nd in 2022 and 4th in 2023. We have a deserving champion, but Al Ahly Libya was not unworthy. The Libyan club has a lot of talent. This is why the MVP, best defender and scorer of the Season, Lual Lual Acuil is there,” he declared.

In Kigali as in Dakar, Cairo or Pretoria, the Basketball Africa League no longer exists. The BAL product attracts more and more people who do not hesitate to travel to experience the moment in the different host cities. A great satisfaction for M Fall. “This season 4 ends in a room with a large audience. We are very honored and happy for our fans especially in relation to the quality of the game produced on all courts. In addition, there have been innovations on the season program with the Kalahari Conference. We have big ambitions for the League. We are highly encouraged to see this audience following what we are doing. We see Kigali being the convergence point of all nationalities. People come from all over to attend the Finals and other activities that we carry out in other sectors. We will be very excited to move this Finals experience to another country and come back to Kigali for one of our Conferences.”

From now on, eyes are fixed on the next edition which should start in March 2025. The BAL had already announced that it would continue to organize three conferences and the playoffs. The Rwanda Development Board, partner of the BAL, had also announced its decision not to host the finals in 2025 but rather in 2026. We will still have to wait to know the next host country of the final phase. “We have not yet studied the applications. We are on this. We will find ourselves in a country, where we will have the best possibilities to do something monstrous in terms of spectacle and quality. There are a lot of things happening on and off the field. I can mention the youth development activities, the Pan-African U23 women’s camp, the BAL4HER, the fashion exhibition evenings, among others…”.

Indeed, all stakeholders in the BAL ecosystem were able to benefit from a moment of learning or discovery in Kigali.

  • The journalists visited the Genocide Memorial against the Tutsis, the museum of the fight against the Genocide, the Kigali Golf, an investment of 20 billion CFA francs for the practice and development of this discipline in Rwanda. In addition to benefiting from a workshop on sports journalism in the sporting world.
  • The coaches benefited from a clinic (training).
  • As part of the BAL For Her women’s program, 21 young girls from 11 African countries took part in a basketball camp to develop their talent but also take part in training sessions on leadership, gender… In addition to a workshop on careers in sports as organized during all conferences.
  • The innovation summit organized by BAL took place for the 3rd time. Bringing together decision-makers in the world of technology, sports and other fields. It was an opportunity for them to discuss the empowerment of sport and its role in creating employment for young people and being a vector of development.
