Water leaks during the handball match in Rodez: the Amphitheater slips into political territory

While the handball match between Roc and L'Union was interrupted, Saturday evening, at the Amphitheater, due to water leaks, the elected opposition representatives of Citoyen denounced “the austerity policy” initiated by the municipality, which would be responsible for this incident. For his part, the mayor deplores the legacy left by the previous municipality and highlights future investments.

The day after the handball match between Roc and L'Union, which was interrupted for nearly fifty minutes after water leaks, the opposition group Rodez Citoyen released a press release castigating “the policy of municipal austerity” which would be the cause of this incident.

“Faced with a municipal policy focused on the repayment of municipal loans, the maintenance of our public buildings is relegated to the background, with disastrous consequences for the inhabitants of Rodez”, assert the elected officials Marion Berardi, Alexis César, Éléonore Échène and Iléana Bertau.

There is no doubt that the relative proximity of the municipal campaign will have precipitated the sending of this press release but the elected representatives of Rodez Citoyen assure that “these incidents – with that of the cancellation of the international tournament due to “the dilapidated infrastructure” , again according to Rodez Citoyen – occur despite (our) repeated alerts, expressed in municipal council, on the urgency of maintaining and securing our public buildings. Unfortunately, these calls went unanswered, the municipal priority remaining unchanged.

A press release which particularly annoyed the mayor, Christian Teyssèdre: “We inherited municipal buildings which were in a deplorable state, he asserts. Over the years, we have redone the village hall, the Foch car park, that of Foirail, the association house, we renovated the Bourran school, etc. We have invested massively in the renovation of many buildings, and we are necessarily doing it gradually. This has a very significant cost but the city continues to do so. invest significantly in infrastructure.”

An envelope of 15 million euros for the Amphitheater

In the past, other incidents of this type have disrupted the progress of sporting events at the Amphitheater. “It was leaves that had blocked the gutters. The flow was therefore no longer happening correctly,” explains Christian Teyssèdre. “We assigned two people to the maintenance of this building, which is dilapidated in many respects. But we will have more details today on what really happened on Saturday evening.”

On a more political level, the mayor of Rodez regrets this exit of Rodez Citoyen while “we are going to vote in the municipal council, in December, an envelope of 15 million euros for the renovation of almost the entirety of the Amphitheater. There will be no more leaks. Once again, I doubt that Rodez Citoyen will vote on the investment budget that we are going to present, as they systematically do.
