Since Friday October 25, several boxes of eggs sold in several stores have been recalled throughout France for a risk of salmonella contamination.
More than 2.8 million eggs have been removed from shelves across France. Boxes of eggs from the brands Tout frais tout français, Douce France, Ovalis (New window), Poitou eggs, Carrefour original, Lidl, and ECO + are affected. Since Friday October 25, Rappel Conso has been warning of a risk of salmonella contamination, inviting consumers to avoid all consumption of the products and to return them to the store for reimbursement.
A family of eight people poisoned
Eggs under the ECO + brand, distributed by E. Leclerc, were on sale from October 3 in boxes of 12, while those from Lidl were on sale from October 4. The original Carrefour eggs, for their part, were marketed between September 6 and October 10. The other brands, distributed in particular by Carrefour, Coopérative U, Auchan, Intermarché and Leclerc, are sold in boxes of 6, 10 or 12 and were put on shelves in France from September 29 and October 10. Their minimum durability date runs from October 24 to 31, 2024.
A family of eight people was notably poisoned by consuming chocolate mousse made with contaminated eggs. Health authorities quickly traced the origin of the contamination to a farm belonging to the Ovalis brand. The company, which sells a billion eggs each year, claims to have “tracked traceability to identify eggs common with the batch” and informed its customers.
