Barely crowned with a new world title, the seventh, near Malaga in Spain less than a week ago, Alexis Hanquinquant is at Portico for a few days. The French Olympic gold medalist in para triathlon this summer came to spend a few days with his family on the South Bank of Gulf of the same place where he completed his Olympic preparation last April.

A great champion, a beautiful person

A simple way to come full circle and present your gold medal to the small world of island triathlon during a ceremony at the Porticcio auditorium.

After a moving speech by Savior Nicholasthe president of the Corsican league, who recalled the genesis of Alexis Hanquinquant's arrival at Porticcio last spring and his discovery of an athlete who was both humble and courageous. “very, very high level”a beautiful person and an almost extraordinary champion, the Norman summed up his year 2024 in one word: “Exceptional!”

At the top of the world para triathlon

The Olympic champion, but also very recently European champion and then world champion again, indeed experienced a season during which he once again rose to the top of the world para triathlon. “A year rich in emotion and victories. But, beyond the European and world titles, having won these Games in has a truly indescribable taste”confided the athlete as he took out this gold medal from his pocket which increased his media coverage and that of Paralympic sport tenfold. “This race was perfect, controlled from start to finish. That's what probably amazed some people who didn't know me and didn't know the discipline.”

After these long months of successful efforts, Alexis Hanquinquant is now taking a few weeks of rest. “There, I'm starting a vacation that I think is well deserved! And it's starting in Corsica, in Porticcio. It's nice to be here to recharge the batteries with my wife and my children. I wanted to come back and share this medal with everyone who helped me during my preparation.

And then? “2025 will be a year of transition. I'm thinking of doing fewer international races and focusing on the European and world championships. And then I'm going to do a long distance event, just to find new challenges…”

Alexis Hanquinquant, 38, is still hungry for victories. He has the next Games in the back of his mind, in four years in Los Angeles. “I would like to end up with the 2028 Games. But that is still far away. We will have to refocus on them from 2026, to achieve this last objective…”
