A Russian bomber pilot, who reportedly flew numerous missions against Ukraine, has been found dead on his property in southwest Russia. This is what several Ukrainian media are reporting, referring to the Ukrainian secret services (GRU).

According to this information, Dmitiri Golenkov allegedly beaten to death with a hammer in the small town of Suponevo, near Bryansk, the capital of the region. Ukrainian secret services shared photos of the body on Telegram. They show a man lying on his stomach in the garden of his house, between apple trees. Face down, back of head covered in blood.

Until now, it has not been possible to independently confirm whether the man was indeed Dmitiri Golenkov. The images were taken in the dark, and the crime scene is poorly lit.

We also do not currently have any information on the suspects. However, the GRU wrote regarding the body images:

“The secret services of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry would like to remind that any war crime will be followed by just punishment”

This is not a claim for the assassination of the Russian pilot, but an eloquent message to the Russian enemy.

He would have participated in airstrikes

Dmitiri Golenkov is said to have participated in the terrible attack on a shopping center in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk in June 2022. At least 22 people were killed and 59 were injured, some seriously. Up to 300 civilians were in the mall at the time of the bombing. President Volodymyr Zelensky at the time called the bombing aone of the “most brazen terrorist attacks in European history”.

According to the investigation, the shopping center was hit by a Russian Ch-22 cruise missile fired by a Tu-22M3 bomber. The plane was stationed at a military base located in the Kaluga region. Dmitiri Golenkov was on duty at this military base, located just an hour and a half from his home.

According to the Kyiv Independentthe 45-year-old bomber pilot was in the service of the 52nd heavy aviation squadron of the Russian army, stationed since 2020 at the Shaikovka base. Dmitiri Golenkov also allegedly participated in the attack on an apartment building in the summer of 2023 in the city of Dnipro. This attack left 46 dead, including 6 children. (cc)
