After his team’s defeat against Warrington (16-8), the Catalans Dragons playmaker returned to his team’s performance and the disappointment that invaded Gilbert-Brutus and the Catalans locker room.

The defeat was bitter for Benjamin Garcia’s teammates this Saturday evening. In a day which brought together more than 1,500 friends and faithful on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the XIII Catalan, the Catalan Dragons match against Warrington should have been the icing on the cake. However, everything did not go as planned. The playmaker from Pia, Théo Fages, reflected on this defeat at a press conference “Obviously we are disappointed to spoil the celebration on a special day for the club. It was important to win and we did not live up to it”.

The observation is clear for the Catalan Dragons. Although the riot of energy was remarkable from all the players, it was once again in the offensive animation that it sinned for Steve McNamara’s men. The 29-year-old scrum-half spoke on the subject in these terms: : “We have to regain the offensive quality that we had at the start of the season”.

A need for precision

However, the forwards did their job, and they did it well last night against a very dense Warrington pack. Théo Fages does not fail to remind us of this “In front, things are moving forward but we can’t finish the shots behind”. He pursues : “We have a dire need to be more incisive at the back, the pack puts us in the best conditions but we are not delivering”.

So, when it comes to finding the solution to a problem that has become recurring for several matches, Benjamin Garcia the captain, Steve McNamara the coach and Théo Fages the leader of the attack agree on one point. The latter explained “We have to get back to work. Benjamin banged his fist in the locker room. We need to be more precise and recite in matches what we manage to do during the week in training.”

However, when we look at this Catalan team in defense, the riot of energy is enormous. Such that the blood and gold are capable of spending many long minutes in the English camp, but without scoring. As a good organizer of the game, Théo Fages knows that “We were on top of them for a long part of the match. It’s just a matter of small details in the quality of the passes and the confidence that everyone brings”. The Catalan scrum half is above all aware of his role as leader: “We lack small automatisms, in my role I sometimes need to raise my voice to get everyone back on the right path,” but the player still wants to be positive and assures that in “continue to work hard, everything will return to normal”.
