“The fire started in the room dedicated to video surveillance, for unknown reasons”, indicate the Marseille firefighters. Around 3 p.m., this Saturday, October 19, they were alerted to a fire and large black smoke visible near rue d’Aubagne. On site, the firefighters intervened on Rue Halle Delacroix, in a food store in the 1ᵉʳ arrondissement of the city.
The fire started on the ground floor of a five-story building “fortunately not busy”, specify the firefighters. They therefore did not have to evacuate anyone, however they indicate that their “progress was hampered by an erratic electrical installation, and that it was necessary to wait for the EDf cutoff, before continuing to extinguish the fire, to guarantee the safety of the men.
“Avoid the area so that the firefighters and our teams can work as efficiently as possible.” recommends the municipal police of Marseille on X.
Nearly 65 firefighters are still in action at the time of writing this article, supported by 21 engines. If the majority of the fire is brought under control, the fire fighters add that they are “still in the process of recognition and extinction.”
