RUGBY: Didier CODORNIOU: “This election shows that it is urgent to come together to ensure the future of French rugby”

The 100% list which supported the candidacy of Didier Codorniou for the presidency of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) announces that Didier Codorniou, candidate for the presidency, did not win the election which was held this Saturday 19 October 2024.

Despite a dynamic campaign and the support of many clubs across the country, the ballot designated Florian Grill to lead the FFR for four more years.

Didier Codorniou would like to warmly congratulate his victorious competitor and thank all the clubs, players and supporters who supported his candidacy: “ I fully respect the choice of voters. This campaign has been tough and difficult, in a climate marked by numerous tragedies and events which have shaken our sport and I want to salute the commitment of my 37 running mates and my extended team, women and men, who accompanied me with passion, throughout the territory. Through contact with clubs at all levels, fundamental issues have emerged and today deserve to be debated, without taboos and in transparency, because they concern the very future of French rugby. The significant portion of clubs that did not participate in the vote must collectively question us about governance and democracy within the FFR. This defeat is of course a disappointment, for me, for my team, for all the clubs who trusted me and who voted for me, but also for French rugby. Four more years of inaction could be fatal for our rugby. Despite everything, I want to be confident in the future. This campaign was, on the ground, a beautiful campaign, full of meetings and fascinating debates in all French regions. However, I regret the turn it took at the end. My team and I have remained, despite this deleterious context, dignified, independent and human in the face of glitter and small arrangements which will never advance rugby”

He also added: “I would like to warmly thank the members of my team, including my 37 running mates, without whom this election would not have been possible. It is together, with these committed, competent and loyal women and men, that we will write a new page for French rugby. » “I wish the new management team every success in the management and development of professional and amateur French rugby. For my part, I am giving myself time to reflect on the follow-up that I will give to this adventure.

Didier Codorniou concluded by calling for the unity of all rugby players in order to guarantee a promising future for the discipline in .
