French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in kyiv on Saturday, the French embassy in Ukraine confirmed to AFP. “Today I am going to Ukraine. Support, again and again, for Ukraine’s resistance against Russian aggression,” the minister declared on X on Friday evening, the day before his first visit to the country.

Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in kyiv while the capital is on anti-aircraft alert due to the threat of Russian attack drones of Iranian design. He will spend the weekend in the country to meet his counterpart, Andriï Sybiga. He declared on Friday on Inter radio that he was going to Ukraine “to carry the voice of France, to remind us that France does not turn away from any crisis, to say that what is at stake in Ukraine”. “It is the security of our continent, including food and energy security,” he stressed.

His visit comes less than a week after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made public his “victory plan” against Russia, presented during a recent European tour. In this plan, the Ukrainian leader once again calls on his Western allies to lift “restrictions on the use of long-range weapons throughout the Ukrainian territory occupied by Russia and on Russian territory”, as well as the continuation military aid to train and equip “reserve brigades of the Ukrainian armed forces”.
