Since 1997, Gerta Heta has been an integral part of the media in Albania, while from 2006 she has been the main voice of Vodafone. In an interview for albinfo.ch, Gerta spoke about her life, from her beginnings to today. She talks about how in 2020 she was invited by the Swiss airline CHAIR to become its official voice. From presenter to Top Albania Radio, through singing.
Gerta started her career at Top Albania Radio with her first show “A song for you”. In 1997, when radio was more popular than today, Gerta’s voice became the most loved by her listeners. She was given the nickname “Gerta de Top” by her fans, a name she still uses in interviews.
A turning point in Gerta’s career was her return to Albania after completing her studies in television directing in New York in the United States. She says that during this time, audiences were hungry for new music.
“Things had changed in Tirana during the 2 years I was studying. Top Albania Radio had been complemented by a sister channel, Top Channel. I returned to radio with my heart, and at that time I also received an offer that somewhat changed the course of my career. Dj Aldo and my brother Florian Heta had composed a song and were looking for a singer to perform it. I was in the right place and at the right time. I accepted their invitation and when the song “My love” was broadcast on the radio, it instantly became a hit,” says Gerta.
Many concerts and events followed this song. This pushed Gerta not to stop and she became both a radio presenter and a singer. Gerta released several dance and house songs, which were well received by the Albanian public. She has participated in many festivals, such as: Top Fest, Microphone d’Or and in 2006 also at Kënga Magjike.
Speaking of her period as a singer, Gerta mentions with great nostalgia her collaboration with Visar Rexhepi on the song “Dashuria nuk ka fe”, (Love knows no religion, editor’s note) which was very appreciated by the audience.
“In my repertoire, the song “Dashuria nuk ka fe” is the only one that is not a disco song, but a ballad very popular with the public,” she says.
Gerta gave up music in 2010 to devote herself to her two daughters, now aged 13 and 9.
How did Gerta become the main voice of CHAIR in Albanian?
Gerta Heta is the main voice of the telecommunications company in Albania, Vodafone. Since 2006, you can hear it in every advertisement of this company. Gerta is today recognized as the best voice in Albania.
For Albinfo.ch, Gerta explained that in 2020 she was invited by the management of the Swiss airline CHAIR to become the voice of this company who would speak in Albanian, giving safety instructions during the trip. She tells how this action especially helps elderly people, who, apart from their Albanian language, do not know any other foreign language.
“The connection with CHAIR began in 2020 when I was contacted by the company’s executives to become its official voice. The idea of hearing my voice giving instructions in Albanian which would be recorded in the system of each aircraft was very appealing to me. Every time I boarded a plane, I thought about the category of elderly people from Albanian-speaking regions, who do not know any foreign language and how beautiful it would be if they had a voice that would explain to them the instructions and rules of the plane in their language. I am very happy to be that voice today,” says Gerta.
In addition to her work in Vodafone commercials, Gerta hosts the health show “Hipokrati” on Top Channel. Her family is her main occupation: with her husband Matko Djarmatin, the couple has two daughters. The eldest, Luna, is already a children’s backstroke swimming champion. The future of Gerta and her little Matea are Gerta’s priority.
