How much will a consultation with the general practitioner cost? According to an agreement finalized on May 17, 2024 between Health Insurance and the unions of private doctors, the price of a consultation with a general practitioner could well increase by the end of the year.

A new price for a doctor’s consultation
This new medical convention aims to replace that of 2016. The purpose of this text? Improvements for specialists and collective commitments for access to care. Thus, as reported by l’Humanité, the price of the consultation would increase from €26.50 to €30. A proposed text which should take effect in December 2024. Among the other proposed changes? The establishment of a “long consultation”, at €60, which would allow patients over 80 years of age to have longer follow-up after hospitalization or to benefit from a little help in completing their medical file. Personalized autonomy allowance (APA). Furthermore, the one-off opinion of another doctor, when a general practitioner requests the expertise of a colleague, will be increased to €60 instead of €56.50.

What is the purpose of this text?
This text also plans to fight against the desertion of certain doctors in regions of France. How ? Thanks in part to the revaluation of the attending physician’s package. In fact, additional remuneration would be calculated based on the declared patient population and their characteristics. Note that these increases proposed in the project represent approximately 1.6 billion euros in additional expenditure for Health Insurance and 1.9 billion euros including supplementary health insurance expenditure. We will still have to wait until the weekend to know if the general practitioner organizations will sign this agreement.
