(Article regularly updated) The Rhône and the Loire were placed on red “flood” alert by Météo France on Thursday October 17 in its midday bulletin. The two departments also remain placed on orange “rain-flood” vigilance. The Gier, a river which flows into the Rhône south of Lyon, has been placed on red flood alert, the Rhône prefecture said earlier in the morning.
– 112 interventions by firefighters at 12 p.m.
In a situation update at noon, the Rhône prefecture indicates that 112 interventions were carried out by firefighters, “mainly linked to flooding of premises”.
– Le Gier on red alert, a district of Givors evacuated at 12:30 p.m.
“The population is asked to respect the security perimeters and not to approach the surrounding area.“, wrote prefect Fabienne Buccio onsince midnight indicates Météo France.
The Cornets district is being evacuated at 12:30 p.m. while “the Gier has exceeded the dike”, state services indicate. A reception center was opened by the municipality at the La Rama recreational center.

Trains between Saint-Etienne and Lyon have not been running since around 10:30 a.m. this Thursday due to flooding on the line, SNCF said. It should not resume before Friday October 18. The Lyon-Roanne line is also interrupted.
On the Lyon public transport side, the T2 tramway is disrupted. It now only runs from Saint-Priest Bel Air to Center Berthelot. Initially estimated for 12 p.m., the resumption has not been announced. Certain lines of the TCL network are thus disrupted by bad weather, in particular line S11 which now stops at the La Voûte stop, or even line 89, which stops at the Mouillard stop.
– Closed and impassable roads
The regional prefect also indicated on her X account that the A47 motorway is being closed and invite users to avoid the area. The axis was flooded this morning as storm chaser Yannick Devesvre observed in a video published on X.
The departmental roads D488, D502, D103 and D342 are impassable, the prefecture also specifies in a press release.
– In Grigny, a school evacuated
The Rhône prefecture also indicates that the Gauguin school in Grigny in the Rhône has been evacuated. Around 150 children were transferred to the Pasteur school. Two centers have also been opened: Center Brenon rue waldeck Rousseau
and Children’s center avenue of March 19, 1962.

Ardèche remains placed on red “rain-flood” alert and Haute-Loire on red “flood” alert. The Rhône, Loire and Haute-Loire are placed on orange rain-flood vigilance.
