Torrential rains and storms cause significant flooding in the south of the metropolis of Lyon, in the Rhône department, which is placed on orange alert rain-floods and floods by Météo-France since 10 a.m. this Thursday October 17, 2024.

The Giers river is in flood in the commune, Vigicrues has placed this watercourse on orange alert.
“The precipitation is intense, the risk of flooding is very high. Several roads and areas are already flooded. “Traffic conditions are extremely difficult,” including the A47 completely under water.

“The Carrefour commercial zone is being evacuated,” announced the municipality. Several roads are closed: route du Gier, rue de la Paix, chemin des apricotiers. “Flooding on rue du Dobeln – Château Saint-Gérald stream with repercussions on the streets of the city center is in progress and a major difficulty has been reported at the entrances to the A47 motorway,” continues the City.
The A47 is being closed in the Givors sector, indicates the prefecture.
“We ask you to cancel your unnecessary trips,” warns the municipality of southern Lyon.
Vehicles and motorists were also trapped in their cars due to rising waters, particularly in the Givors commercial area near the A47.
