A child who was in critical condition following an accident in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, in the Lower Laurentians, is now out of danger, regional police said.

The Intermunicipal Police Department of Terrebonne/Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines/-des-Filion reported that an accident involving two vehicles occurred around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday morning on the 5e avenue, in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines.

The police indicated that according to initial findings, it was a head-to-head collision, where one of the two vehicles involved deviated from its lane.

According to police, both drivers of the vehicles involved suffered minor injuries, but a child who was in one of the vehicles was seriously injured. The child was transported to the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center in Montreal, but he is now out of danger, it was announced at noon.

He is now conscious and under observation at the hospital center, the police service said.

Police were trying to determine the causes of the accident on Wednesday.
