A 49-year-old man risks 5 years in prison for a double attempted murder in Theux

A 49-year-old man appeared on Friday before the Verviers criminal court. He is being prosecuted for eight charges, including one for double attempted murder committed in Theux on February 3.

The defendant is well known to the courts since he has already been convicted 17 times for driving, but also for carrying weapons and assault and battery. The public prosecutor therefore considers that the forty-year-old is a repeat offender and that all the charges have been established.

On the evening of the incident, the man entered his ex-partner’s home by climbing a low wall and a garage. “I wanted my things back and especially the money I had advanced for the rent. As she said she spent it, I decided to steal some valuable material, but it was missing. I drank, I took speed. I was enraged. Without news of my ex, I threatened to burn the house down and cut them all up.”

With her son still at home, the woman decided to return home with two friends. The two men entered the house first. One of them was pushed down the stairs before receiving around twenty punches and kicks, knocking him out. “With two knives, I decided to leave him a little souvenir with a cut in the side. When I saw the depth of the injury, I stopped everything,” indicates the defendant who disputes the intention of homicide. The second victim received a stab wound to the nose.

The defense lawyer pleads for a reclassification as assault and battery and asks for a probationary stay.

Judgment on May 31.
