In this match, postponed from the 8th day, Rouen hosts Gap, another team in difficulty in the Magnus league. Both adversaries are looking for points, content and references.
For this, Fabrice Lhenry can count on Francis Perron. Injured in the ribs in the CHL, the Canadian plays his first Magnus league game of the season at the center of the 4th line.
Matéo Perdrix digitally replaces Guillaume Naud, hit on a shooting block against the Ilves, Wednesday evening because Fiorenzo Villard was the victim of a crutch with Rouen II. At Gap, the same lines as against Bordeaux are present. The back-ups of the two squads start the match in front of the cages.
The Dragons built their success on the middle period where they exploded the defense of the Raptors (then composed of only five backs), offering the crowd, thus sated on this Fête Du Ventre weekend, a fire of ‘artifice.
Antti Karjalainen lived a nightmare after replacing Antoine Gilbert (too early?) in front of the cage just after the first break, while Gap was “only” down by two goals. The Seino-Marins scored five new goals and led 8 to 1 before Marton Vas decided to take his time out (at 33’42). There the lone rider of the Normans will stop.
Fabrice Lhenry’s men put a lot of speed into their movements. They took advantage of turnovers during opposing zone exits caused by skating pressure. The players on the banks of the Seine found beautiful passing lines. They also worked well in the crease and found the key in superiority to produce a great show.
The scorers were skillful. They were able to benefit from often impeccable passes. Dmytriw, Perron, Cantagallo, Lindelöf and especially Simonsen (x3) were the most noticed passers. Anthony Rech was fantastic on five occasions to finish his teammates’ work! The (interim) captain benefited from a feint around the cage from Simonsen to open the scoring from close range (1-0 at 9’26). The left-hander also deflected a cross from the ex-Gothique (3-0 at 18’01). It was again on a (back) pass from Simonsen that Anthony Rech found an open cage (8-1 at 33’42). In the final third, the native of Sallanches grabbed a rebound in power play after a cage attack from Kytnar (9-3 at 44’54). Finally, the number 18 put a cross pass from Lindelöf through the Raptors defense (10-4 at 53’07). Photo below.
The captain scored his 5 goals in less than 44 minutes! The other scorers are: Jordan Hervé installed in the numerical advantage and who worked well with the backhand near Gilbert’s right post on a rebound (2-0 at 17’41). In transition, Vincent Nesa was there to deflect a pass from Dmytriw who was faking the shot (4-1 at 21’07). Sebastian Bengtsson inherited a puck poorly negotiated by Camp and Rohat leaving the zone then finished the job with a wrist shot into the left corner (5-1 at 22’27). Tommy Perret was found in the neutral zone in the deep axis after a long pass from Cantagallo. The winger, who escaped, aimed without feint under the right corner (6-1 at 26’31). Tomas Simonsen made lightning speak in an open cage, when he struck directly, a quick side pass in the middle of the Gapençais square from Perron, during a five-man attack installed (7-1 at 31’53).
Obviously, the Rouennais took advantage of certain current shortcomings of the Raptors, often static during cage attacks and sometimes lacking in aggressiveness in the slot, in defense. The absence of Kyle Hallbauer, who did not reappear on the ice after the first period, cannot explain everything. On the other hand, the ardor was very present in attack, after the timeout taken by Marton Vas (too late?). Already during the first third, the Dauphinois reduced the score nicely. Two against one, with Horvath convincing, Jan Dalecky gave Richard no chance (3-1 at 18’28). We were surprised that after this reduction in the score, obtained before returning to the locker room, the momentum, which could be offered to the visitors, was immediately broken by the replacement of Gilbert by Karajalainen on the first return to the ice.
After their coach’s speech, the Alp’Arena residents were sharp in attack, but without regaining a defensive base. They managed four new goals in less than 25 minutes, even if Romain Gutierrez’s teammates took advantage of Rouen’s lightness and generosity when their hosts were leading by a wide margin. Chad Langlais set an example by going to the left of the slot for the rebound of his shot from the right circle! (8-2 at 34’55). Brayden Sherbinin put all his power into hitting a long return to the top of the slot (8-3 at 38’11). Loïc Coulaud deflected a point shot from Mickevics (9-4 at 49’2). Maurin Bouvet returned a shot from Thillet after Lindelöf had broken a second stick in this game (10-5 at 58’20).
10-5, this table football result which will delight a crowd fed by such a spectacle this evening, will do good for the morale of the Rouen attackers lacking success in the 3rd third in Nice, before going to challenge Lahti for the honor during of a final Champions League match. A score which still leaves a slight taste in the mouth because of the two goals conceded during the last third. Gap must also find defensive solidity and put aggression in his slot and around his cage. This, from Tuesday, in Cergy, in order not to record a 5th defeat in a row during the 10th day of the Magnus league.
