Domenico Tedesco will not line up Jérémy Doku as right back, a position he started against Italy, during the Red Devils’ match against France on Monday.
“I explained my plan after the match. I didn’t want to line him up as a right back, I’m not that crazy. He will not play this position tomorrow“, smiled Tedesco on Sunday at a press conference.
“Against Italy the aim was to have possession and we had it, but not for 90 minutes. This allowed Jérémy to defend high. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t, that’s why we made changes after the 2-0.“, he added.
The coach also returned more generally to the match against Italy where the Devils snatched a draw after being down 2-0 and playing in numerical superiority for a little more than a half.
“We had a video session on Saturday and it was 90% based on the first 30 minutes. By conceding the first goal after a minute, we no longer respected the plan which was to be compact. We were too impatient. However, I also want to highlight the good reaction of the group. There was certainly a red card, but that’s part of the game and we caused it. There could even have been a second and a penalty in the second half“.
Returning from Rome on the night of Thursday to Friday, the Devils were only able to train once in full this Sunday before the match against France. “Those who did not play in Italy trained on Saturday, but it was technical training and not tactical training. We always operate like this. The second day after a match is always the hardest. The whole team trained well today“.
