Peter Vandenbempt finds the attitude of some players and national coaches retaliatory. He believes that there should be more respect for international football. Vandenbempt says this in his column in Het Nieuwsblad.

There are many complaints about the overcrowded calendar of football players. Vandenbempt does not deny that. According to the commentator, international football must remain respected. He misses that with players and national coaches.

“The recent attitude of Domenico Tedesco and also Didier Deschamps is revengeful. Clearly fit players such as Lukaku or Meunier and Mbappé do not have to report, captain (!) De Bruyne will visit again in about six months. If it suits,” said Vandenbempt.

Doomed

“If the key players of their generation want to be part-time internationals and the national coaches facilitate them in this, then international football is indeed doomed,” it sounds sternly.

“We don’t have to go back to the time when players with two broken legs were obliged to report for examination by the national doctor, but if they finally get things in order in Tubize, that can be a priority. That the national shirt is taken seriously again is becoming.”
