Donald Trump, Republican candidate for the American presidency, on Thursday associated the passage of Hurricane Milton in Florida with his political program. “We are so sorry for you, and we want God to be with you, and we know God is with you,” he said in a video posted on X.

The former president spoke of the strength of the people of Florida, praised Gov. Ron DeSantis and suggested help “like never before” would be provided under his leadership.

“Hopefully, on January 20th, you’ll have someone who will really help you and help you like never before, because help is on the way,” Donald Trump said, referring to the outcome of the presidential election on November 5, for which he is competing with Democrat and current Vice President Kamala Harris.

The inauguration of the next president is scheduled for January 20.

Ms. Harris and US President Joe Biden had already strongly criticized Donald Trump on Thursday, accusing him of deliberately spreading false information in the context of the disaster, which the current tenant of the White House described as irresponsible.

Joe Biden, in an unusually familiar outing, had thus estimated that Donald Trump had to “do something with his life”, after having asked his Republican adversaries to stop spreading false information about hurricanes Helen and Milton. He had invited him to help the victims of these natural disasters.

The Republican is using the disaster to undermine confidence in the government’s relief efforts while trying to take political advantage of people’s fears, the Democratic president and vice president said.
