ORANGE “rain-flood” and YELLOW “thunderstorms” alerts were lifted in the Alpes-Maritimes by Météo at 3 a.m.

The department is now on YELLOW “rain-flood” alert from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.
ORANGE “flood” vigilance is still in progress for the middle .

Description of the weather event:

After entering the Alpes-Maritimes from the west, the meteorological episode crossed the department towards the Roya valley before evacuating towards the east.
In the end, the precipitation totals are 15/20 mm for the coast, 60/80 mm for the middle country and 40/60 mm for Mercantour. The heaviest precipitation is recorded
in the Lucéram sectors with up to 134 mm, Carros with 109 mm and Moulinet with 119 mm.
Concerning the watercourses, Roya and Bévéra reacted strongly around 3:00 a.m. with levels close to the alert thresholds without generating overflows at Fontan and Sospel respectively.
For the other watercourses, no major reaction is to be reported with values ​​lower than the meteorological episode of October 8, 2024.
Preventive evacuations took place in the evening in Saint-Martin-Vésubie and Fontan.
In , the André Liautaud tunnel was closed preventively due to the Paillon flood.
This will be opened again in view of the evolution of the watercourse.
Some tree falls as well as landslides caused cuts on certain roads in the department in the middle and high country. A few downed trees were also reported in Saint-Martin-Vésubie and caused power cuts for homes in Lucéram. Power restoration was quickly taken care of.
The Departmental Operational Center (COD) in the prefecture was lifted at 4:15 a.m.
The Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes thanks all the State, emergency and security services as well as the communities mobilized for monitoring this meteorological episode.
