One of the greatest achievements in French sport will return to competition this winter. Olympic champion in 2018 and five-time world champion, mogul skier Perrine Laffont will return to competition this winter after a one-season break, she announced in an interview with AFP.

“I can officially say that I am coming back for next winter, that I am going to attack again in December”, precisely in Ruka (Finland), at the opening of the World Cup on November 30, declares Laffont. “The decision was quite late,” explains the 25-year-old Pyrenees.

“All the lights were green”

“In May, when we normally resume training, I still had a little bit of fatigue, but I needed to exercise. With my trainer, my physical trainer, we said to ourselves: “We don’t put pressure on ourselves to come back and be ready in December. You come back with the group, you do the weeks of preparation and we see how the body copes.” It happened little by little,” she says.

Her recent three-week internship in September in Ushuaïa (Argentina) finally made her decide. “This is where we reattack the runs complete, where we see the physical and mental form too. It went very well. We said to ourselves that all the lights were green to attack again this winter,” continues Laffont.

The Worlds in the viewfinder

From now on, the five-time world champion (between 2017 and 2023) is making the Worlds in Switzerland in March 2025 her “big point of the season”. Until then, “I will be at the opening of the World Cup in Ruka. And then, we’ll see as we go along, envisages Laffont. I’m still coming back from a year’s break. You never know how the body and mind will react. We will have to build a crescendo. »

A year ago at the same period, the 2018 Olympic champion, “on the knees” at the end of the 2022/2023 season, announced her decision to “take a break from competition for a few months” to “resume mental freshness”, particularly with a view to the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina (Italy).
