Burnley had to win to still believe in their chances of remaining, but the defeat recorded at Tottenham (2-1) on the 37th and penultimate day of the Premier League sealed the fate of the Clarets. At the same time, Everton won against Sheffield United (1-0) while Luton Town lost to West Ham (2-1).

In the standings, Everton remains 15th (40 points). Luton is 18th (26pts) and will have to wait for the Nottingham result to know its fate while Burnley is 19th (24 points) and is going down a year after joining the Premier League.

Burnley had however taken an option to dream with a goal from Jacob Bruun Larsen (25th, 0-1) but Pedro Porro came to cut the party short with an equalizer (32nd, 1-1). At the very end of the match, Micky van de Ven definitively put an end to all suspense (82nd, 2-1).

Behind, Vincent Kompany’s men were never really able to get back into the match and are making their descent into the Championship (D2), a year after being crowned champion.

Kompany took charge of Burnley in the summer of 2022 and had a season with 29 victories and only three defeats in 46 championship matches, in D2. With only one match remaining, Burnley’s record is five wins, nine draws and 22 defeats in the Premier League.

At Goodison Park, Everton dominated Sheffield United but only achieved victory by the smallest margin on a goal from Abdoulaye Doucouré (31st, 1-0). Starting for the Toffees, Amadou Onana played the entire match.

Finally, Luton Town lost valuable points during their defeat at West Ham (3-1) despite a goal from Albert Sambi Lokonga. Thomas Kaminski started in goal for Luton.
