What Is The World Grand Prix Darts Format?

The PDC World Grand Prix darts is the only event that requires a DOUBLE-START – meaning to get going each player must hit any double (or the bullseye) before their 501 score is in-play.

Then, at the business end of a leg, a player must also finish with a double (or bull) in the normal way.

This quick-fire format can often lead to many shock results, with even the best players often not hitting a double early on to get started and, in the process, falling behind in legs.

As the event moves on through the rounds the ‘best of sets’ increases as per below.

  • First round – best of three sets
  • Second round – best of five sets
  • Quarter-finals – best of five sets
