Ligue 1 (33rd day). Marseille – FC Lorient, Sunday (9 p.m.)

Why did you decide to close public access to training this week?

It was not to withdraw into ourselves, but a decision solely linked to the intrusion of supporters during a session last week. The club had to react and ensure its safety. We like the relationship with the people who encourage us along the railing. But we wanted to be sure we could train correctly, because every session counts. We can criticize the team, the coach’s choices, but we must be able to work in complete peace of mind.

What did you say to the players this week after the defeat at Lens (2-0, day 32)?

That everything is still possible. This team has consistency, but only in sequence, with a lot of irregularities in the construction of the game and drops in concentration. If this finally goes our way, it only depends on us. We can do it, but we have to continue working so as not to have regrets at the end.

Can playing Marseille after their elimination from the Europa League on Thursday be an advantage?

Hard to say. We asked ourselves the same questions before hosting Paris (1-4, 29th day). Marseille is undoubtedly disappointed and tired. However, this team can rely on an extra-large squad and is playing its last match at home, still with the objective of securing a European place. But Marseille has already lost at home and Lorient has already won at the Vélodrome. We must therefore cultivate this belief that it is possible.

Will you be following the progress of Metz’s score on the bench, who is playing at the same time as you in Strasbourg?

We will have to do this, because it can influence the conduct of our match. Should we go for a victory or is a draw enough? This can influence the changes and directions of the second period in particular.
