Ligue 1: the program for the 33rd day, with PSG – Toulouse and Montpellier – Monaco

After a sad week for French clubs in European competitions, it is high time for football fans to return to Ligue 1, for the penultimate day of the championship. On the program, in particular: Paris Saint-Germain will take to the lawn of the Parc des Princes to face Toulouse FC, while the Montpellier residents will welcome AS Monaco to the Stade de la Mosson. Here is what awaits us during this new Ligue 1 weekend.

Ligue 1 Uber Eats is preparing to make its big return to our screens, after a week marked by the semi-finals of the Champions League and Europa League. Unfortunately for Parisian and Marseille supporters, the weather was not good during the major European competitions. Indeed, PSG finally lost to Dortmund and the Marseillais suffered a defeat against Atalanta. We must therefore hope that this new day of Ligue 1 will allow both teams to erase these recent failures.

In the championship, while it is one game behind (like OGC Nice, OM and Stade de Reims), PSG is unsurprisingly still at the top of the standings, even already being crowned champion with currently 70 cumulative points. The capital club is currently followed by AS Monaco, with 61 points, with Stade Brestois closing the podium with 57 points. The latter can thus still hope for a place as runner-up, on condition of a flawless performance and a poor performance from the Monegasques…

If the champion’s place is no longer up for grabs, these last days of the championship remain extremely important for many clubs, particularly those at the bottom of the ranking. As a reminder, the dams are back this year. The team which finishes 16th in the championship will have to face, in a two-legged match, the winner of the BKT Ligue 2 Play-offs. As for the last two in the ranking, they will be de facto relegated to Ligue 2. Currently, it is Clermont and Lorient who are in the hot seat. Here is the entire ranking at the end of the 32nd day of Ligue 1:

Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Toulouse FC

While many fans thought that this year would (finally) be the good one, PSG was ultimately eliminated in the Champions League semi-final against Dortmund. However, the Parisians will not have been unworthy, having even seen numerous opportunities present themselves to them. Unfortunately, none were conclusive: “Football hasn’t been fair to us”, declared Luis Enrique following the match, as reported to us Le Figaro. It is now time for Marquinhos and his teammates to refocus on Ligue 1 and prepare to welcome their opponent Toulouse, this Sunday, May 12. Although PSG are already crowned champions, it is important for the club and its supporters to finish this season in style before returning to Lyon for the Coupe de France.

As for Toulouse, currently 11th in the standings with 40 points, a victory would allow them to hope for a 10th place (in the event of a defeat or draw for Montpellier HSC). And if some would already be ready to grant victory to PSG, we note that we should not underestimate Carles Martínez Novell’s men. Remember, during the first leg in August 2023, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. In other words, everything still remains to be done for this return match.

Small point on the suspensions of this 33rd day of Ligue 1: Toulouse FC will have to do without Rasmus Nicolaisen for the clash against PSG.

Refereeed by Florent Batta, the PSG – Toulouse FC meeting can be followed this Sunday, May 12 from 9 p.m. on Canal+ Sport 360.

The Monegasques travel to Montpellier to secure their place as runners-up

Runner-up in the standings, AS Monaco must win their next match or risk leaving an opening for Stade Brestois, which could then, at the end of the last day, take second place. For this penultimate day of the championship, Adi Hütter’s men will travel to the Stade de la Mosson to face a Montpellier team galvanized by the last six days without defeat.

The challenges for both teams? AS Monaco must secure its place and thus win at least this match or that of the 34th day. As for Montpellier (40 points), the team could get closer to OM (44 points).

Update on those suspended from this 33rd day: Montpellier Hérault SC will have to do without Lucas Mincarelli, Arnaud Nordin and Téji Savanier. As for AS Monaco, they will have to do without Takumi Minamino.

Refereeed by Stéphanie Frappart, the match can be watched this Sunday, May 12 from 9 p.m. on Prime Video.
