A major figure in the fight against corruption in France, Renaud Van Ruymbeke has left his mark on numerous legal cases, notably the Elf, Kerviel, Clearstream, Balkany, Urba, Taiwan frigates and Cahuzac cases.
Retired since 2019, he was also known for his passion for football and his talent on the piano.
A key player in investigations into major political-financial scandals, he has also spoken out against tax havens, considering them a “scandal” in the face of global inaction despite urgent needs in terms of public services and energy transition.
Rémy Heitz, Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, welcomed “the image of the independent and courageous investigating judge” that Renaud Van Ruymbeke embodied.
