In the United Kingdom, a doctor pleaded guilty to attempted murder after trying to kill his mother’s partner using a fake Covid-19 vaccine. Thomas Kwan, a 53-year-old family doctor from Sunderland, admitted his actions as his trial opened at Newcastle Crown Court.
According to prosecutor Peter Makepeace, Kwan hatched a plan to get rid of his mother’s boyfriend, motivated by the family inheritance that was to be passed on to the latter. Using his medical knowledge, the doctor conducted extensive research into various poisons in order to implement his plan.
Kwan pretended to be a community nurse to enter the residence of Mr O’Hara, his mother’s partner, and inject him with poison under the pretext of giving him a booster shot of the Covid vaccine. The prosecutor added that the doctor took several steps to disguise his identity, including wearing a wig and using a fake license plate.
Despite the poisonous injection, the victim survived, but suffered from necrotizing fasciitis, a severe bacterial infection. This case illustrates the dramatic consequences that abuse of trust and manipulation of medical skills can have.
