France – World – Police officers seriously injured in a Paris police station: what we know about the circumstances

The vital prognosis of one of the two police officers shot in the police station of the 13th arrondissement of Paris by a man arrested was “still engaged” Friday morning, said Paris police chief Laurent Nunez. “His vital prognosis is still in jeopardy”declared the police prefect on France Info.

Vital prognosis committed for one of the police officers

He explained that the police officers from the 13th arrondissement had intervened Thursday evening for a “extremely violent attack with a cutter on a woman who was seriously injured”. “The man was obviously very excited”, he said. The police took him to the police station and made him blow into a breathalyzer. It was at this moment that the man grabbed an official’s weapon, continued the prefect.

The man grabbed a civil servant’s weapon

Regarding the profile of the perpetrator of the shooting, Laurent Nunez did not provide any information, referring to ongoing investigations. “We don’t know if he knew the woman” whom he attacked, he said, adding that the police officers called to the scene had to “break down the door” of the appartment.

When asked if the events within the police station could be compared to terrorism, he replied: “It is too early. The Paris prosecutor (Laure Beccuau) will communicate on this.” A shooting within a police station itself is extremely rare.

The attacker seriously injured in the chest by return fire

The events took place on Thursday shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the time of the search of the man who had just been arrested. He grabbed a civil servant’s weapon and fired, seriously injuring two police officers. He himself was seriously injured in the chest by return fire, without his life threatening, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Three open investigations, one of which entrusted to the IGPN

The prosecution opened three investigations. Two were entrusted to the 3rd DPJ, one for “attempted murder of the woman”the other for “attempted murder of persons holding public authority”.

The 3rd investigation was entrusted to the IGPN (the “police of police”) to “intentional violence with a weapon by a person holding public authority”as is always the case when a police officer uses his weapon.
