– Many products, including Coca-Cola, are seeing their prices increase again.

“Instead of taking three bottles, we take two.” Speaking to BFMTV, consumers are unanimous: the continued increase in the prices of certain sweet products in recent weeks means they have to make choices when filling their shopping cart. However, according to INSEE, in April, THE consumer price still increased, but by 2.2% against 2.3% in March, a slight decline, with a notable drop in food. The institute noted a slight increase of 1.2% in prices compared to 1.7% a month earlier. But the prices of certain products are exploding. This is particularly the case for cocoa and sugar.

Result, on the shelves, it is the consumer who drinks. For example, the bottle of Coca-Cola symbolically rose above 2 euros. The American giant managed to renegotiate its prices and therefore “these increases” with distributors, deciphers consumption specialist Pascale Hébel for BFMTV. The soda specialist has never hidden its intention to increase its prices, mentioning last November a increase of 7%, but wanting to stay below the fateful 2 euros mark. The bet, it seems, has failed for the moment.

Cakes and chocolate fly away

The Coca-Cola group says it wants to pass on increases, but as the NielsenIQ firm mentioned in 2022, the 1.75 liter bottle of Coca-Cola is nevertheless the third best-selling drink in France, behind the bottle of Ricard (1 liter) and the 6 × 1.5 liter pack of Cristaline. In total, the bottle of Coca-Cola generated 72.1 million euros in France, to which must be added the 59 million euros for the pack of six 33 centiliter cans (in fifth place in this barometer).

But Coca-Cola is not the only product affected by the price hike. The rise in the price of sugar has pushed up the prices of cakes and sweets. According to the barometer produced by The Parisian, Lu’s Petit Écolier biscuits have become more expensive, just like Kinder chocolate bars or Nutella sold at more than 6 euros per kilo. Without forgetting chocolate and chocolate-based cakes, while the ton exceeded 12,000 dollars. Even if, since then, the price of cocoa has fallen by 15% after its historic peak. What discourages consumers from treating themselves to small pleasures?
