At Uni Mail, it is decided, the students will participate in the discussion proposed by the rectorate

At the end of the afternoon, the students who occupy Uni Mail debated the rectorate’s proposal in the hall. Among the students present, opinions are visibly divided. For some, it is about “discussions that will drag on”, “not worrying about what the media think”, “obtaining guarantees”. “I have the impression that they are asking us to review our demands. It can slow down the movement, encourage people to believe that the movement is over, because we have had something. (…) They do not want to recognize the genocide in Gaza,” asserts for example a woman in the assembly, who gathered on the steps of the hall for the occasion.

“If we want our voice to be heard, we must be able to put pressure in the other direction. Today, there are maybe 200 or 300 of us, while the university has thousands of students. Our only guarantee is that the movement grows, that we mobilize between 10 and 20% of students. Let’s expand the movement!”, supports another young person.

On the other hand, the reactions do not take long. “I think that the solution between “not going there” and “going there” is to go there and set terms to provide a framework for the negotiations,” argues a student.

“Tomorrow if we don’t go we’re shooting ourselves in the foot, because we don’t even know the content of the negotiations. From the start, we have advocated dialogue,” adds another. “We have to choose the narrative we want to give to our movement,” continues another student. “We didn’t have the same thinking as in the other states, we didn’t have the police. I think it’s in our interest to maintain a dialogue. Otherwise I don’t see how the movement will be able to prosper,” says another.

Finally, the students present almost unanimously decided to go, by voting.
