Israel and Hamas at war

A day of memory. For Hadas, wife of Ofer Kalderon, one of the last two Franco-Israeli hostages held by Hamas, the expression is unbearable. Because for her, the day of October 7, 2023 cannot end as long as her husband is detained in Gaza. “Don’t ask me if Ofer is alive, I don’t know.”ahead of Hadas. Two of their children, Sahar, 16 years old, and Herez, 12 years old, were released after 52 days.

They don’t care about hostages

Hadas Kalderon, about the Israeli government

“My daughter feels guilty for leaving him. He told her ‘please don’t forget me, fight for me, I don’t want to die here’. So how can- can she have a normal life?”underlines Hadas Kalderon. The two children no longer leave their room, do not return to school, no longer leave their mother.

She is still fighting against oblivion, but also against the war in Lebanon, led by the Israeli government. “Which government? Ours? They don’t care about the hostages. They are pawns on a political chessboard”, regrets Hadas Kalderon, with tears in his eyes. She hopes for an end to the fighting, the only way according to her to see the last hostages held by Hamas again.

Among them, Ohad Yahalomi, the second Franco-Israeli still captive. Every day, his mother, Esther, asks herself the same question: will he be released today? She remains tirelessly confident. Netanyahu didn’t ask me if we should go to war. Nobody asked me. And I ask the question to Western countries: how can we negotiate with terrorists?”she asks. For a year, there have been no family meals. The vision of Ohad’s empty chair is too painful for him. “It will take time, but I don’t have time. I wish he had been released today, yesterday, a year ago already”insists Esther Yahalomi.
