5 shows to see at the Santa Teresa Festival

The town of Sainte-Thérèse is kicking off festival-goers’ summer with the 8th edition of the Santa Teresa Festival, which runs until Sunday.

The festivities start Thursday with an evening devoted exclusively to humor. Arnaud Soly is the headliner of the day. From 7:30 p.m., he will welcome Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais, Maude Landry, Daphné Létourneau, Julien Corriveau and Mona de Grenoble to the main outdoor stage.

It’s the music that will take over and take the spotlight from Friday. Here are five artists not to be missed.

Fun fact: the music for Unessential Oils was composed while Warren Spicer was taking a very long bath.

The artist is also recognized as a record producer. He notably produced the two albums of the group Comment Debord, which will be performing on the main outdoor stage on Sunday at 6:15 p.m.

At Bar Le Cha Cha, Unessentials Oils will be preceded by the R&B, soul and new wave band Night Lunch.

The three members of the trio are still active solo, but they will take us back to the early 2000s with their music which has not aged in any way, the albums Dreary sad mentality (They didn’t understand) (1999) and I’m Revolutionizing (2002) being still relevant today.

On the main outdoor stage, the rap evening will culminate with the French rapper of Algerian and Guadeloupean origin Ziak, who always appears masked and reveals nothing about his identity.

Chloe Jara-Buto

The Holy Grail

Sunday 12 May, 18 h 30

Chloé Jara-Buto makes imperfect sounds that resonate beautifully. His lo-fi rock songs with an electro flavor often lead us to say I’m going to back off because I’m not sure I understand everything..

His most recent album The Year of the Rabbit, released last December, recalls his love for delicate sounds, voices that come and go, then fade away.

The numerous tempo changes and unique themes will capture the attention of lovers of novelty.

Chloé Jara-Buto will be followed by beatmaker queer Montrealer Soraï, at 7:30 p.m.

With songs in French and English, Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque explore all the possibilities of minimalism. As a pair, they produce so many complex and precise sounds that you almost wonder what purpose all the members can possibly serve in groups of three or more people.

The couple, who formed their Club in 2019, won the Espoir 2023 prize at the GAMIQ and was nominated in the Revelation of the Year category at the GalaADISQ. The first album of Bibi Club, The sun and the sea (2022) was named to the 2023 Polaris Music Prize longlist.

On the main stage, Santa Teresa’s last evening will end with Daniel Bélanger’s show at 8:20 p.m.

The entire Santa Teresa Festival program is available online (New window).
